The Villain Sleeps Tonight - 反派今晚睡著了

The Villain Sleeps Tonight

Ladies and gentlemen...
Good news.
Nobody's starting a war tonight.

[Verse 1]
The kings are tired, the generals yawn
The angry men have all gone home
The flags are folded, the speeches done
Nobody's reaching for a gun

The headlines haven't learned to smile
But they can take a break awhile
The loudest fool has lost his voice
And silence wasn't even his choice

[Pre-Chorus]
So pour some coffee, raise a glass
Let one more peaceful hour pass
Don't ask me how, don't ask me why
Just look at that beautiful sky

[Chorus]
The villain sleeps tonight
(He's sleeping, he's sleeping!)
Oh, what a lovely sight
(Everything's alright!)

For now.

No one to blame, no one to fight
Let everybody sleep alright
The villain sleeps tonight!

Shh! Don't wake him up!

[Verse 2]
The preacher's resting, the liar too
The man who sells the fear to you
The billionaires have closed their eyes
Nobody's bidding on the skies

The little boy across the street
Can finally sleep beneath his sheets
His mother doesn't watch the door
And wonders what she's frightened for

[Pre-Chorus]
If peace is only passing through
There's still a little good to do
Before the morning brings the news
And everybody finds their shoes

[Chorus]
The villain sleeps tonight
(He's sleeping, he's sleeping!)
Oh, what a lovely sight
(Everything's alright!)

For now.

Let the whole world breathe
Let the children dream
For once, the stars are shining bright
The villain sleeps tonight!

[Bridge]
I know the morning's coming
I know the world will turn
And some will wake up hungry
For another bridge to burn

But somewhere there's a child
Who never learned to hate
If we could keep that little heart
Perhaps it's not too late

Distant Voice: Is the villain asleep?

M: Yes! He's asleep!
C: Then keep your voice down.
V: Shhh... let him dream...

[Final Chorus]
The villain sleeps tonight
(He's sleeping, he's sleeping!)
And everything's alright

Don't count on it.
At least until the morning!
Let the whole world breathe
Let the children dream
We may not win the endless fight
But peace belongs to us tonight
