The formation of DSR dates back to 2008 when Ben P. and Brent met through another group of musicians at the time...Ben didn't end up playing with this group, however, Brent did and the band ended after about 10 months...Months later on a Sat. night in Kaohsiung, Ben P. and Brent met up in a night club in Kao., and there Ben told Brent that he was currently playing with a jam band on Sundays...From there, Brent went out the next Sunday and jammed with the band...He felt comfortable with this band, so, he continued playing with him...Not even a month later, Brent ruptured his achilles tendon, and was man down for quite some time after...Ben still contacted Brent though, and the two stayed in touch...They started to meet up at Ben's place during the week...They both felt the need to make original songs, so, in the first three months of Brent's rehab, they made a rough idea for their first song, which is now known as the song "This Moment"...From there, songs were made a faster pace as Ben and Brent found a greater chemistry from continuous jamming and song creation...Months pass again and Brent started walking, Ben sought out an acoustic group to start working out some of the originals that he and Brent had made...The group went by the name of "Beeny's Ritual" and they played shows once in a while...By year's end, two of the members weren't around anymore. Brent and Ben however had run into Ben G. who had jammed with the band at a prior show at DC Stage in Kao. Ben dusted off his sticks, and began playing hard with the boys at a sound stage in Kao., and pretty soon the trio had a good 6 songs down...Onward, the trio of Ben P., Brent, and Ben G. changed their rehearsal spot, and after playing there for a month or so, the manager of the pub introduced Hsu Ponw to the trio as they were voicing the need for a bass player...The band gelled with Pon instantly. Pon brought more of a funk vibe to the band...So the four men now jammed hard together and pretty soon they were show ready...They performed their first show in Oct. of 2010 and it caught a good reaction...At that show was a guy named Greg who Ben G. had met up with at a pub not even 2 weeks before...He expressed interest in wanting to find a band to play in and started rehearsing with the band after the first show...Greg caught on to the tunes and was then the fifth member of the band...Greg brought an extra boost to the overall sound and now the band was complete...This whole time, the band was banging their heads off walls trying to find the right name to go as...In the end they chose "Dirty Southern Rituals"...The name stuck, and they went with it...The band has been playing shows consistently now and continues their journey to make quality tunes and create good times for all...
