Twinkles

i'm catching a ride to someplace special with you by my side
it's a sign i can't help thinking that i left behind
on my desk is cluttered barely shuttered windows in my mind
haven't let the sunshine in to find out that we're doing fine

move it around and shake until the bubbles finally rest
then chase it down with zinfandel that's pinker than your dress
all throughout the evening you will vaguely remember my name
i'll let it go cause i know i'm supposed to play the same old game

we'll watch these shooting stars as they fall through the alabaster sky
your head is on my chest as i debate the twinkles in your eyes

if it makes you happy can it also make you laugh
if it takes the pain away can innocence come back
would you draw the faultlines that define your cheeks are blushing white
as they brush against my arm you left for dreams of pleasant heights

i'd wish for nothing more than keeping score this lovely summer night
i'll realize my pupils dilate when you close them with your eyes
