Chapter 3: The Congo Basin — The Forest Where Everyone's a Musician

《The Congo Basin》是我《THE FIRST SOUND》音樂史雙書計畫的第 3 章主線作品。這一次，我們將視角帶入中非剛果盆地的熱帶雨林，探尋阿卡族（Aka）與姆布提人（Mbuti）古老而深邃的音樂傳統。在這裡，請先放下現代音樂中對於「表演者」與「觀眾」的界線認知——因為在這座森林裡，沒有人是單純的聽眾，每個人都是這場聲音儀式的一部份。

這首作品的歷史基底，建立在令人驚嘆的無譜多聲部合唱（Polyphony）上。根據法國民族音樂學家辛哈·阿羅姆（Simha Arom）的實地考究，這些部落在沒有指揮、沒有樂譜的情況下，能自然交織出複雜的四聲部即興和聲；其結構的精密程度，歐洲直到 14 世紀才得以企及。在聲響設計上，我們試圖捕捉部落傳統的「水鼓」（Liquindi，以雙手擊打水面產生節奏）以及極具代表性的「辛德夫」（Hindewhu，一種單音哨與人聲快速交替的演唱技巧），重現那份無需任何工業製造物、純粹源自大自然的原始律動。

然而，在歌詞的文本中，我們也點出了一段關於現代音樂史的真實插曲：1973 年，紐約爵士樂手以吹奏啤酒瓶的方式，模仿並錄製了這份源自剛果森林的「辛德夫」聲響。該張爵士專輯最終創下白金銷量，席捲全球，但這份巨大的商業收益與榮耀，卻從未回到這片孕育出該聲音的森林與部落居民手中。
