洄游

山狗大自2017年開始，接觸南洋地區客家社群，從新加坡、沙巴、吉隆坡到檳城，並結識當地的音樂人。2022年和新加坡的世界音樂團體The Straits Ensemble合作，透過網路共同創作了一張專輯「島嶼連結」，也因此促成2023年山狗大後生樂團在濱海藝術中心（Esplanade -Theatres on the Bay)參與年度世界音樂節的演出。2024年樂團足跡跨越得更為寬闊，捷克-馬來西亞-加拿大，9月開始在所剩無多的年度時間裡，全力投入新專輯的錄音，趁著心境仍在洄游的狀態時，錄下最貼切的感受。

多年來山狗大的音樂，一直著墨在描繪台灣客家。然而像鮭魚的必然離開生長的地方，前往未知的世界探索，洄游在大海，或許是宿命，也許是使命，族群聲音的召喚總會引領我們回到夢中的原鄉。

「洄游」紀錄著我們跟世界連結的聲音。

Since 2017, New San-geu-tai Band has immersed itself in the vibrant Hakka communities of Southeast Asia, journeying through Singapore, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang, forging connections with local musicians. In 2022, the band collaborated with Singapore's world music group, The Straits Ensemble, to create the album, Connecting Islands, through an online partnership. This collaboration opened the door for New San-geu-tai Band to perform at the prestigious World Music Festival at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay in 2023. In 2024, the band's journey spans even further, with performances in the Czech Republic, Malaysia, and Canada. During the remaining months of the year, in September, the band delves into the recording of a new album, capturing the purest emotions while in a state of reflection, ensuring that their music stays in tune with the ebb and flow of their journey.

For years, New San-geu-tai Band’s music has been a canvas for depicting Taiwan’s Hakka heritage. Yet, like the salmon that must inevitably leave its birthplace to explore the unknown, migrating through the vast ocean—perhaps it is fate, perhaps it is mission—the call of cultural identity always brings us back to the homeland of our dreams.

“Upstream” is a sonic chronicle of our connection to the world—a testament to the voices that transcend borders, uniting us all.
