HIGHER GROUND

Cracks in the dark where shadows begin,
Tracing dreams that are wearing so thin.
Every heartbeat stone, every breath a ghost,
Walking the path where I’m needed the most.

I feel the fracture, the breakdown, the dust,
Building ladders with pieces of trust.
Night is my master, but I am no slave,
Digging a path from the edge of my grave.

Wringing my faith from the ashes of doubt.
Fighting like demons with a saint’s design,

Voices loud, singing hymns of despair,
Filling gaps in the cold, broken air.
I've memorized failure and know how it feels,
To have certainty crack at my heels.

The dark is a canyon, a hollow abyss,
It cannot contain me, it cannot do this.
I'll set myself on fire to serve as my guide,
To the salvation on the other side.
