Be you.
They taught us love should have a certain face,
A certain name, a certain kind of grace.
A boy, a girl, a story drawn in lines,
As if the heart could read the warning signs.
But some boys fall for boys beneath the moon,
Some girls find home in someone just like you.
Some hearts love many, some don't need romance,
Some fall for minds before they take a chance.
And none of this is broken, none is wrong—
We've always been here, breathing all along.
You don't owe the world an explanation,
You don't need a word to make you real.
Whatever name becomes your liberation,
Whatever way your heart decides to feel—
You don't need permission to be beautiful,
You don't need forgiveness to be whole.
No heaven, flag, tradition, law or ritual
Has the right to take possession of your soul.
Love who you love,
Or love no one at all.
Hold who you want,
Or never need that call.
There are a million ways of being human—
And every one of them belongs.
Maybe you're bi, or pan, or still unsure,
Maybe no single word has felt secure.
Maybe desire rarely comes your way,
Maybe it's someone's mind that makes you stay.
Maybe the mirror tells a different truth
Than all the names they handed you in youth.
You may be fluid, changing like the sea—
You owe nobody consistency.
A label can be shelter, not a cage;
You choose the language written on your page.
And if they quote their gods to make you smaller,
If they call their prejudice "morality,"
Remember: any faith that breeds a weapon
Cannot decide the shape you're meant to be.
You don't need permission to be beautiful,
You don't need forgiveness to be whole.
No heaven, flag, tradition, law or ritual
Has the right to take possession of your soul.
Love who you love,
Or love no one at all.
Hold who you want,
Or never need that call.
There are a million ways of being human—
And every one of them belongs.
So let the woman love the woman.
Let the man reach for the man.
Let a heart choose every color,
Every soul it understands.
Let the ones who feel no hunger
Walk without apology.
Let the ones without a label
Simply breathe and simply be.
No scripture makes you lesser.
No custom makes them right.
No culture earns permission
To turn difference into spite.
You were never born to whisper
So somebody else feels strong.
Stand up.
Your body is your body.
Your heart is your heart.
Your name is your name.
And you belong.
WE DON'T NEED PERMISSION TO BE BEAUTIFUL.
WE DON'T NEED FORGIVENESS TO BE WHOLE.
No heaven, flag, tradition, law or ritual
Will ever take possession of our souls.
Love who you love!
Or love no one at all!
Dance if you want!
Or never dance at all!
There are a million ways of being human,
A million colors burning through the dawn.
So don't be scared of everything that makes you
Different from the world that taught you wrong.
Be tender.
Be fearless.
Be strange.
Be true.
Become the only thing
That no one else can do—
Be you.
No permission.
No apology.
No permission
To be me.
