《雪山隧道－致2001.05.11》Hsuehshan Tunnel

貫通坪林、頭城的雪山隧道，工期長達15年。2001年5月11日凌晨突遇抽坍，開挖面上方湧出大量土石流，工地主任林子益疏散工人，所有人順利脫困，林子益殉職。詩作探討「快走」的雙重意涵，當今的快速便利行走，建立在技師用生命守候的快走呼喊之中。音樂欲呈現此般拉扯、焦躁沉重之景，眾聲喧嘩中失焦的無力感。

The construction project of Hsuehshan Tunnel that connects Pinglin and Toucheng took 15 years to complete. During construction, a ground collapse occurred at the construction site before dawn on May 11th in 2001. Site Director Zi-Yi Lin evacuated the construction workers. While all the other workers safely escaped from the site, Lin died in this accident. The poem explores the dual connotations of “Hurry,” implying that the convenient and rapid transportation nowadays is built upon the technician’s warning shouts and sacrifice of life. The music is unsettling and heavy, revealing the unfocused sense of helplessness in the hubbub at the site.

橋埋入山裡，就是隧道。
A bridge buried in a mountain is a tunnel.

我們小心翼翼
鑽洞不取火
緩緩地切割，如同處理一條
昨日牙痛的神經
Carefully, we
Drill the hole without creating sparks,
Slowly cutting in as if handling
A nerve that caused toothache yesterday.

我們竊取速度
與時間同夥
以蛀蟲的毅力，一口一口
啃食幽暗深遠的山脈，前方有蜜
We steal speed and
Conspire with time
As a determined tooth worm that, bite after bite,
Gnaws a way deep into the mountain for the honey ahead.

雪山，雪山
我沉默而黝黑的美人
四稜砂岩、六處斷層
不過是她欲拒還迎的試探
Snow Mountain, O’ Snow Mountain,
My silent and black beauty.
The sandstone and the six faults in you are but
Refusal disguised in seduction.

終於，她用全身力氣
將水吐盡
石壁之中，湧現銀白的浪濤
她為我揚起
一整片燈光的海洋
Finally, with all her strength,
She squeezes out all the slurry and water.
Beyond the stone wall emerge silver-white waves,
With which she raises a sail bearing a sea of lights.

我彷彿看見你
數年之後
吞下另一口冷氣孔前
徐徐涼去的咖啡
收聽廣播電台音樂，以打盹為節拍
像雪山裡不斷震動的
風中葉片
I seem to see you
Years later.
In front of an air-conditioner outlet,
You take another sip of the gradually cooling coffee,
Listen to radio music and doze off with the rhythm
Like leaves in Snow Mountain that quiver constantly
In the wind.

在漫長而接連不已的
燈之海中
你打著呵欠，忽略窗外隧道仍隱約迴響的
我最後一句留言：
In the sea of lights that
Extends beyond the horizon,
You yawningly ignore my last words
That faintly resonate out of the window in the tunnel:

快走──，快走。
Hurry, hurry.
